oaquin Phoenix Says He's Done Acting
(Oct. 29) -- His fantastically portrayed roles in 'Gladiator' and 'Walk the Line' earned Joaquin Phoenix Oscar nominations, and now the superb young actor says he's considering leaving the movie business.
In a shocker dropped on 'Extra,' the 34-year-old Phoenix said at a Paul Newman charity benefit that he plans on leaving the industry. "I want to take this opportunity ... also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor ... I'm not doing films anymore," he said.
The stunned reporter asked Phoenix if he was being serious, to which the actor responded: "Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."
Fellow actor Casey Affleck said he's pretty sure that Phoenix is telling the truth. "I don't think he's kidding," he told Extra.
Phoenix's rep also backs up the actor's claims. "That is what he told me," the publicist concurred.
It should be noted that Phoenix was being followed by his own camera crew, though there's no word why they were there.
